Kiwi singer Lorde has revealed the level of pressure she put herself under to deliver her second album, Melodrama, due to be released on June 16. The 20-year-old says she felt “intense” pressure to create a follow-up to her phenomenally successful 2013 debut album Pure Heroine, which features her major hit song Royals. “No outside pressure could ever be as intense as the knowledge I had that it had to be good at any cost,” she says. “I really am so in conversation with myself when it comes to my work. I am the only critic I truly trust. I am constantly battling to impress and surprise myself.” She says a relationship break-up helped her music enter “a whole new level”. Lorde, aka Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has already released two songs, Green Light and Liability, from the anticipated new album.
