Drink­ing beet­root juice be­fore ex­er­cise could help main­tain healthy brain func­tion. A study of 26 men and women over the age of 55 found those who com­pleted 50 min­utes of light ex­er­cise after hav­ing a beet­root drink had health­ier brain func­tion than those who ex­er­cised with­out it. The ni­tric ox­ide in beet­root juice in­creases blood flow to the brain and when com­bined with ex­er­cise it strength­ens parts of the brain, mak­ing it ap­pear more youth­ful and po­ten­tially pre­vent­ing the or­gan’s de­cline.
