Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - YOUR LETTERS - KIM MADDEN

Sweet talking

There is so much conflicting nutrition and health advice these days that it’s all a bit overwhelming. Low fat is good, then it’s bad; butter is in, but not too much; don’t drink too much alcohol, but red wine can be good for you… It’s hard to know what to make of all the studies and the advice. I have recently cut out sugar from my diet so I was really interested to see the story on your health pages, “The truth about sugar alternatives”. I was surprised to read that agave syrup, which is in a lot of raw-food “healthier” recipes, actually has more kilojoules than table sugar. Thank you for the guide to what each sugar alternative is – I have cut it out to refer to when I’m researching recipes and writing my shopping list!
