CHILDREN AND A VEGAN DIET
Health experts warn parents to be careful about putting children on a vegan diet without medical and dietary advice. While a vegan diet, devoid of meat, fish and dairy, can be perfectly healthy, a lack of vital nutrients can cause irreversible damage. Not getting enough vitamin B12 can damage a child’s brain function, nervous system and blood, while a lack of protein can cause stunted growth. Excess fibre can cause children to feel full too quickly, which may prevent them getting enough nutrients.
