Health ex­perts warn par­ents to be care­ful about putting chil­dren on a ve­gan diet with­out med­i­cal and di­etary ad­vice. While a ve­gan diet, de­void of meat, fish and dairy, can be per­fectly healthy, a lack of vi­tal nu­tri­ents can cause ir­re­versible dam­age. Not get­ting enough vi­ta­min B12 can dam­age a child’s brain func­tion, ner­vous sys­tem and blood, while a lack of protein can cause stunted growth. Ex­cess fi­bre can cause chil­dren to feel full too quickly, which may pre­vent them get­ting enough nu­tri­ents.
