Canadian Tulip Festival

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - DESTINATIONS -

In thanks for protection during WWII, Ottawa has received a gift of tulips from the Dutch royal family every year since 1945. And thus the world’s largest tulip festival, with over a million blooms, was born. Alongside the sea of flowers each year are wonderful art exhibits, live performances, artisan workshops and more. With around two million people attending every day, the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is not for the faint-hearted. This pre-Lent samba extravaganza is held in the Brazilian summer but its origins trace back to ancient Greek and Roman spring rituals.
