My lavender is looking “woody”, with fewer leaves and flowers. How can I help it thrive? S. Herbert
“Woody” lavender is prone to dying in heat or cold. Trim the plant by a third to just above the branches with vigorous leaves – if you remove those leaves, the bush may die. Add a light scatter of lime (as long as you do not already have alkaline soils, because lavender prefers a slightly alkaline soil). Scatter fertiliser and water well.
