Arataki wins Wall Worthy kindy section
Arataki Kindergarten has taken out the top spot in the early childhood centre category of the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Wall Worthy competition.
From a strong field of entries nationwide, Arataki Kindergarten has won the opportunity to bring theirmural design to life this year thanks to the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Wall Worthy competition, proudly sponsored by Resene.
In their submission, Arataki Kindergarten project coordinator Roxy Burt said the story behind their mural design is one of local and cultural significance.
“Our mural will depict one of the local pu¯ra¯kau or Ma¯ori legends that tell the story of three local mountains that many of our children and families are connected to.
The themes behind this pu¯ra¯kau include kotahitanga— working together for the collective, manaakitanga— taking care of each other, and taking care of our environment and whanaungatanga— family connections and relationships that sustain us.”
The WallWorthy competition ran in schools through term 1, with schools and their students invited to submit mural designs with local or environmental significance.
The winning designs receive an electronic prize, along with a $750 Resene paint voucher and othermaterials to paint their mural.
Roxy says this will be a fabulous way to celebrate their 40th jubilee next month.
