Enjoy a scenic night walk in hills
Afive kilometre walk to one of the most beautiful views in the Western Bay will be held in June.
The annual PapamoaHills Night Walk is in its ninth year, raising funds to support Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust.
The walk starts at the Poplar Lane car park where walkers head up the hill and across the park, finishing in the Ger (Mongolian Tent) at Summerhill Recreation Park. It’s awell-marked routewith Youth Search and Rescue marshalls along the way to make sure everyone stays on the track.
This year it is held on Friday and Saturday, June 29-30. The walk is traditionally held in the winter months and is pegged as a great chance to get off the couch, away from your devices and have an evening adventure.
“Last year was a bit different because of the logging in the park sowe walked in September— itwas warmer but not dark enough,” says co-organiser Helen Alice. “Part of the fun of the walk is coming out under the moon and stars and doing something that the public are not normally allowed to do— walk in the Papamoa Hills Reserve after dark.”
The walk is about 5km with the majority of the walk being uphill, to brilliant views over the city and coastline under the full moon. Walkers are rewarded with cake and a hot drink at the top and then are taken back to their vehicles by minibus.
Walkers should be more than 13 years, and must preregister. Tickets are $28 via www.breastcancerbop.org.nz/ page/events.
Be part of a walk at night to beautiful views, and to fundraise for breast cancer.
