Sewing stash alive and well

Bay News - - Front Page - COVER: Beth Bowden, organiser of FASH.

Good old-fashioned sewing and a love of fabric is alive and well in Tauranga.

Sewing has made amassive resurgence in the Bay and there’s a huge community of fabric fans. So Beth Bowden’s annual fabric market dayFASHis a big deal. Every year Beth can’t believe the amount of “stashes” out there who come to market.

It might be because of the emphasis on recycling and upcycling of clothes— giving clothes a second round. FASHis a great event for treasure hunters, including steam punkers and people interested in costume play.

There will be some real bargains, so don’t miss out on the biggest fabric market day in the Bay on June 16.

Wealso have a story on Envirohub Bay of Plenty’s Sustainable Art Challenge, on page 4. The competition culminates in a fashion show on June 17 showing off sustainable fashion and wearable arts created by talented young people.
