Coun­try mu­sic lo­cals make fi­nals

The 39th New Zealand Coun­try Mu­sic As­so­ci­a­tion an­nual En­ter­tainer of the Year Awards will be held in Tau­ranga this year and three lo­cals are com­pet­ing for the top ti­tle.

The Western Bay fi­nal­ists are Neil MacKen­zie-Hall (se­nior, Coastal Coun­try Mu­sic Club), Te­gan Reid (se­nior, Coastal Coun­try Mu­sic Club) and Rer­erangi Twad­dell (ju­nior, Mount RSA Coun­try Mu­sic Club).

The awards have moved from Ro­torua to Tau­ranga and will be held on Oc­to­ber 6 at Bay­court.

The awards in­clude a ju­nior, in­ter­me­di­ate, se­nior, vet­eran sec­tion and song­writ­ing sec­tion. There are 21 fi­nal­ists— over­all win­ners from the Pounamu, Auck­land, Waikato, East­ern Bay and Muddy River awards— who will bat­tle it out for the ti­tle En­ter­tainer of the Year and are in to win prize pack­ages such as in­ter­na­tional trips and stu­dio time to record.

The kick­off event will be an of­fi­cial wel­come for con­tes­tants on Oc­to­ber 5 at Ho­tel Ar­mitage.

Satur­day’s event is open to the pub­lic and in­cludes en­ter­tain­ment from Kaylee Bell and her band. Kaylee is an award win­ning coun­try pop singer­song­writer and gui­tarist from Wai­mate with 10 Top 10 sin­gles

on the Aus­tralian Coun­try Mu­sic charts.

Also per­form­ing are the 2017 NZ Coun­try Mu­sic En­ter­tainer of the Year win­ners Dou­ble Blend, Doug Eru­toe, Jay­din Shin­gle­ton and Seren­ity Grace.
