Fundraising events have become the norm for most schools these days, but the pressure has increased tenfold since Iwas a kid.

Now we are talking about committees having to come up with big ideas to raise big bucks.

Tens of thousands of bucks. But there are people in the community and supporters of schools who do this year after year as injections of cash from the government are harder to get.

This year the Golden Sands School Fun Run & Walk hopes to use the money it makes for a new playground. Event director Lesley Park says last year more than 1000 adults and kids took part in the event, which is possible because of support from local businesses.

They have some great spot prizes, so why not rally the family and give it a go?
