If you check out the You Tube video Kawea Te Reo Ma¯ori, you’ll see Matapihi School students having the time of their lives.

The look on their faces says it all . . . they are loving it and having so much fun.

They are in the running to take out a Te Ma¯ngai Pa¯ho video challenge and are also finalists for MADE Awards— both promoting school students in art and culture.

There’s also amessage in there to embrace te reo, and that te reo is for everyone. Teacher Keeri Stanley-Kaweroa has done an amazing job getting the song started (set to the tune of Ciara’s Level Up) by changing the lyrics to promote using te reo in everyday life.

The students have then taken ownership of the project/ video by creating their own dance moves.
