The 58ft Wavecrusher Gen­tle Spirit, be­long­ing to Dave Cochrane of Auck­land, was coated from new with Coppercoat an­tifoul­ing paint by Wavecrusher Boats in 2001. She has not been an­tifouled since.

Gen­tle Spirit is Cochrane’s third Wavecrusher; all three have been coated with Coppercoat an­tifoul­ing paint.

“We are very pleased with Coppercoat as a low main­te­nance an­tifoul­ing,” Cochrane says. “We lift Gen­tle Spirit out of the wa­ter for a week in Novem­ber each year at the Whi­tianga Ma­rina. Ev­ery year all she re­quires on lift out is a high pres­sure wa­ter blast, be­fore we check all hull fit­tings, pro­pel­lers, shafts, rud­ders and bow thrusters and ap­ply Prop Speed. Adding a reg­u­lar anti-foul ap­pli­ca­tion to the job list would greatly in­crease main­te­nance costs for this fifty-eight-footer.”
