ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE

Boating NZ - - On Watch - Capacity Empty Weight LOA Beam Draft

THE CANADIAN ELECTRIC BOAT Company has been manufacturing electrically-powered recreational vessels since 1995, but it’s latest release is something of a show-stopper.

The 6.7m Bruce 22’s 400-volt electric motor pushes it to speeds of 41 mph, with enough torque for watersports such as water-skiing and wake-boarding. The vessel is equipped with a lithium-ion Panasonic battery pack, the same as those used in the Tesla motor car.

This battery is recharged at a conventional power source. Bruce 22s are noiseless and emit zero pollutants, so are thus less intrusive on other people who are also enjoying the water.

The vessels are certified by the Canadian, US and European Coast Guards.
