New Zealand La­goon dealer Orakei Ma­rine re­ceived the “Best Cus­tomer Ser­vice, Over­seas” award for 2017 at the re­cent La­goon dealer meet­ing in Bordeaux, France.

The ac­co­lade was to­tally un­ex­pected, says Orakei Ma­rine MD Ja­son Snashall, who cred­its his staff, specif­i­cally Tom Van Praagh, boat­builders Blair Clarke and Jor­dan Pretty and ap­pren­tices Dan Pur­chase and Sam Springett, with the win.

The award stems from work un­der­taken by the team on a 52-foot La­goon de­liv­ered new to its Ger­man own­ers in Bordeaux. It then sailed to New Zealand via the Caribbean and Pa­cific ( Boat­ing NZ, June 2017).

The own­ers en­coun­tered a few war­ranty-re­lated is­sues on the way and be­came in­creas­ingly frus­trated with ship­ping de­lays and the dif­fi­culty of find­ing tech­ni­cians to work on the boat. By the time they reached New Zealand, says Ja­son, their re­la­tion­ship with La­goon was some­what strained.

But staff at Orakei Ma­rine sorted it out, says Ja­son: “They en­ter­tained the fam­ily, found spares and at­tended to all the war­ranty claims. We got in the mid­dle be­tween La­goon and the fam­ily and made the con­nec­tion.”
