Balpha Mast of Shetland has developed a foldable mast system for sailing yachts that makes lowering and raising a mast while underway easy. Air draught, rigging adjustments, maintenance, repairs, winter storage and transportation become less restrictive and costly with a Balpha mast.

The first aluminium prototype Balpha mast was trialled onboard a 7m traditional Shetland fishing boat, providing significant environmental and economic benefits for sail-assisted fishing. Balpha Mast has developed a retro-fitting design for sailing yachts.

Ceilidh Composite Technologies started producing the carbon fibre system in Hellevoetsluis, The Netherlands, based on a carbon fibre track plate that makes lowering and raising a mast a piece of cake. This pioneering design has been tested and demonstrated on Dutch waterways with their many bridges.

The Balpha Mast system was exhibited for the first time at HISWA in the water boat show in August.
