Yaeh and Henry celebrated a magical wedding day in Wanaka with family and friends who had travelled from all around the world. Yaeh shares their story…

Our wedding day began differently for the both us. Henry dragged his groomsmen to the gym at the crack of dawn and I was up until 2am baking and icing the wedding cake! Luckily for me, the morning was far more relaxed. The girls and I were pampered while the boys set up the ceremony site, which overlooked Lake Wanaka and its surrounding mountains.

Henry serenaded me down the aisle with an acoustic guitar version of Beyonce’s Love on Top. After the ceremony, our guests enjoyed homemade canapés, drinks and outdoor games in an outdoor lounge set up with chaise lounge, sequinned gold cushions, Pimms with paper straws and acoustic tunes. Henry and I were flown by helicopter to

a mountaintop location for our photos.

Our reception venue was decorated with gold glittered jars filled with candles and flowers in white and plum hues with lots of foliage. A chandelier made up of 1000 paper cranes was inspired by my Japanese heritage, and the table tops were scatted with mini cranes, salted caramel chocolates for favours and pictures of me and Henry throughout the years. We’d spent a lot of time making little things to add ambience to our theme, including growing the potted plants that decorated our venues, making gold sequinned cushions, table runners, helium balloons with fringing, chalkboard signs, a gold sequin table cloth for the dessert table, the cake topper and cupcakes.

A yummy meal and speeches were followed by the cutting of the cake and dancing into the night. It was truly a magical day.
