Dan­nevirke cel­e­brates ju­nior net­ball

Dan­nevirke Net­ball’s se­cond set of ju­nior grad­ing games was a cel­e­bra­tion of all that is good in the sport.

On Satur­day morn­ing, May 12 the net­ball courts by the Sports Sta­dium were full of netballers and their fam­i­lies as four grad­ing games were run at a time with mil­i­tary pre­ci­sion ev­ery 20 min­utes.

The weather stayed dry and the school-based teams were all kit­ted out in colour­ful uni­forms, games be­ing cheered on by coaches, par­ents and grand­par­ents.

This year there are 16 ju­nior teams of Year 5-8 play­ers in the A-C grades and 14 Fu­ture Fern teams com­posed from Year 1-4 play­ers who will train and play in a four-on-four com­pe­ti­tion (Year 1-2) and a five-on-five (Year 3-4).

Ju­nior net­ball games started on Satur­day, May 19.

Mean­while, se­nior net­ball starts on Wed­nes­day nights from 6pm May 23. There are 10 teams.

Ac­tion in the Huia Range v South B grade.

Ac­tion in the Norse­wood v Ruahine C grade.

The 5-on­five Year 3-4 play­ers lis­ten to or­gan­iser Anna Mur­phy.

Ac­tion in the Com­bined v Huia Range A grade.

A bit of a mis­match be­tween Chloe Hansen and Ali Ed­wards but that is what grad­ing games are for.

Ac­tion in the Kura v Norse­wood/ Puke­toi C grade.
