Last weekend May 19-20 a number of local shooters successfully represented the Southern Hawke’s Bay Rifle Association in the North Island Teams of Ten shooting competition held in Te Puke.

The team produced their best final placing in the competition finishing in eighth position out of 15 teams. The team has never finished in the top 10 before.

The Teams of Ten is one of the largest North Island shooting competitions where every association fields teams of 10 shooters and the shooters shoot shoulder to shoulder depending on their ranking.

The number 10-ranked shooters shoot first, with the number one ranked shooting last when the pressure to win is on for final placings.

The Southern Hawke’s Bay team is made up of shooters from Dannevirke, Wallingford, Norsewood and Ruahine shooting clubs.

Greg Bengsten, a junior shooter from Dannevirke, was fifth equal over the 163 competitors in the competition a fine performance for a junior in only his second year of competitive shooting. He also shot his new personal best of 200.13, also a great achievement in a high-pressure match.

Keeping him company in the top five shooters was Chris Harrison from the Ruahine Club.

Chris was placed second overall.
