students returned for the celebration and by all accounts it was a great night. Many had travelled from afar, even from Australia and the uniqueness of having an age-group rather than a school reunion which covers decades really struck a note with those attending.

Relationships were rekindled after a 40-plus-year gap and they said it was great to hear life experiences after leaving school.

Morna McGregor was the chief organiser but the idea and contacting attendees was the work of her group of friends as well.

Merrylees Hotel provided a steady flow of nibbles all night, starting at 4pm and going late.

Highlight of the night was the “birthday cake” — 60 cupcakes representing the 60 years since 1958 each with a candle and after singing Happy Birthday to Us members took it in turns to blow it out. Thanks went to Morna and her team. One speaker said, “You took on the idea, did the hard work and made this into a wonderful celebration”.

Toasting absent friends.
