Team tops the table
With only a point separating the top three in the Manawatu¯ Second Division, Dannevirke Sports Club's Valkyries football team knew they had to beat Tumeke Hawks on Sunday to at least temporarily make the top of the grade.
They did, winning 3-2 in an emphatic display of attacking football in the second half. The first half was a disorganised affair by both teams and a 1-1 scoreline was a fair response.
In the second half Dannevirke's halves and wings fed a constant supply of ball with excellent accuracy to the forward line and the barrage of shots at goal could have yielded more than the two goals scored, had the Hawk's goalie not been so good.
A single surge late in the game by Tumeke had them scoring a goal but strong defence by Dannevirke protected the one-goal advantage for remaining minutes, leaving both coach David Barber and the team pleased to be in this position with four games to go.
Beck Watson feeds a pass to Erin Brunton who has company.
Nicole Bourke launched many attacks in the second half.
Karla Nikora- Chase defended in the second half.
