Brigade honours its members
Members and supporters of the Norsewood Volunteer Fire Brigade together with other representatives of fire brigades and senior representatives of the organisations linked to the Fire Service met on Saturday in Hovding Hall to celebrate the achievement of 14 of its members.
The main event on Saturday evening was the Gold Star Medal presentation to Wayne Montgomery and he also received Life Honorary Membership. Wayne is the Norsewood Volunteer Fire Brigade Deputy Chief Fire Officer and earns the gold star for 25 years of service.
In presenting the award Mark Adie, Past President of the United Fire Brigade Association said Wayne’s was one of nine gold stars presented around NZ that night. There have been 7832 medals awarded in the Fire Service’s 140-year history. He passed on the congratulations of The Minister of Internal Affairs Tracey Martin.
Ken Cooper Area Manager of HB Fire and Emergency NZ congratulated Wayne saying volunteers like him were the backbone of the Fire Service and the thriving volunteer service in Norsewood was highly valued.
TDC Deputy Mayor Allan Benbow said the council was grateful to the Fire Services volunteers playing an increasing role as first responders, saying Wayne and his fellow firemen deserved huge thanks.
There were other awards for Wayne, notably the presentation of life membership of the Norsewood Club by his dad Roger.
