Bri­gade hon­ours its mem­bers

Mem­bers and sup­port­ers of the Norse­wood Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade to­gether with other rep­re­sen­ta­tives of fire brigades and se­nior rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the or­gan­i­sa­tions linked to the Fire Ser­vice met on Satur­day in Hovd­ing Hall to cel­e­brate the achieve­ment of 14 of its mem­bers.

The main event on Satur­day evening was the Gold Star Medal pre­sen­ta­tion to Wayne Mont­gomery and he also re­ceived Life Hon­orary Mem­ber­ship. Wayne is the Norse­wood Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade Deputy Chief Fire Of­fi­cer and earns the gold star for 25 years of ser­vice.

In pre­sent­ing the award Mark Adie, Past Pres­i­dent of the United Fire Bri­gade As­so­ci­a­tion said Wayne’s was one of nine gold stars pre­sented around NZ that night. There have been 7832 medals awarded in the Fire Ser­vice’s 140-year his­tory. He passed on the con­grat­u­la­tions of The Min­is­ter of In­ter­nal Af­fairs Tracey Martin.

Ken Cooper Area Man­ager of HB Fire and Emer­gency NZ con­grat­u­lated Wayne say­ing vol­un­teers like him were the back­bone of the Fire Ser­vice and the thriv­ing vol­un­teer ser­vice in Norse­wood was highly val­ued.

TDC Deputy Mayor Al­lan Ben­bow said the coun­cil was grate­ful to the Fire Ser­vices vol­un­teers play­ing an in­creas­ing role as first re­spon­ders, say­ing Wayne and his fel­low fire­men de­served huge thanks.

There were other awards for Wayne, no­tably the pre­sen­ta­tion of life mem­ber­ship of the Norse­wood Club by his dad Roger.

Wayne’s fa­ther Roger, a Se­nior Fire Fighter who has served for 42 years and is a past Chief Fire Of­fi­cer at Norse­wood, presents his son with Life Mem­ber­ship of the Norse­wood Vol­un­teer Bri­gade.
