Girls groups need leaders

- EMMA JAMES

Girl Guiding has become so popular in Cambridge that more leaders are needed.

There are currently 92 girls involved in guiding in Cambridge, but a further 25 girls are on the waiting list to join the various sections.

There are four groups for different ages - Pippins, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

Recruitment co-ordinator Inakshie Amerasinghe said more adults, or ‘‘leaders’’ are needed so the girls on the waiting list can join.

‘‘Our current leaders are doing a fantastic job running great programmes for girls in the area, but with more girls wanting to join we need the support of more enthusiastic people to come on board and take on leadership roles,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s an awesome opportunity to work closely with girls, put together and deliver engaging programmes for them, work with other great leaders and build long lasting relationships.’’

She said even ‘‘specialist’’ leaders - people that specialise in any outdoor skill - would be appreciated, even if it was on a flexible basis.

‘‘We do awesome things to help inspire young girls and lead them toward great futures,’’ said Amerasinghe.
