Sixth year for fun run

For the sixth year, St Peter’s Catholic School hosted an­other suc­cess­ful REMAX Waipa Fun Run.

Af­ter sev­eral days of ner­vous weather watch­ing and sleep­less nights for the or­gan­is­ers, the event took place on Sun­day, un­der mostly blue skies.

There were 657 keen run­ners and walk­ers who en­joyed the at­mos­phere of the day, and stayed around ea­gerly await­ing prize giv­ing at Vic­to­ria Square.

More than 330 chil­dren com­peted from 19 schools in the 2k school chal­lenge.

Thomas Trol­lope from Cam­bridge was the first male home in the J Swap 10km event with John Rudge (Te Aroha) 2nd, and Chris Chapman (Auck­land) 3rd.

Jo Mor­ton from Te Awa­mutu was the first woman home in the 10km race, with Paige Pater­son (Cam­bridge) 2nd and Re­becca Bai­ley, (Cam­bridge) 3rd.

The Smith Sports Shoes 5km first placed male was Jonny McKee (Cam­bridge) Adam Ling (Cam­bridge) came 2nd and Za­heer Bhika (Tama­here) 3rd.

Lau­ren Bren­nan from Cam­bridge was the first placed fe­male, Alan­nah Mouat (Cam­bridge) 2nd, and Nic Pet­tit (Cam­bridge) 3rd.

The New World Team Chal­lenge was won by CPS Run­ning Ex­press.

A high­light for many of the chil­dren was be­ing un­der the starters or­ders of Olympian Nikki Ham­blin.
