Former St Peter’s Cambridge student Camille Buscomb will compete for New Zealand at the 2017 London World Athletics Championships.

She was added to the national team following ‘‘a stunning run’’ of 31:45.02 over 10,000m in Stanford, California, Athletics New Zealand said.

The time was 30 seconds under the London qualifying mark and a personal best by 41 seconds for the 26 year-old from Cambridge. It was also under the nomination standard for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Buscomb won silver over 5000m at the 2015 World University Games but narrowly missed qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 5000m.

Her move up to the 10,000m has been successful and in December won the prestigious Zatopek 10,000m in Melbourne.

The Hamilton City Hawks athlete, coached by Nick Bideau is based in Mt Laguna near San Diego training with the Melbourne Track Club ahead of a European campaign in early June.
