More help for flood victims

Cambridge Edition - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE - EMMA JAMES

More than a month on from the Edgecumbe flood residents are still trying to pick up the pieces, and Cambridge man Rocky Teepa wants to help.

He has set up a huge auction event at the Cambridge Cosmopolitan Club, to be held on Saturday May 20 at 10am.

Teepa rallied around Cambridge businesses to see what could be done and was pleasantly surprised to receive five pages of signatures with promised donations.

Hair dresses, automotive shops, cafes, galleries, building shops, plumbing businesses, travel companies and many other businesses are involved.

‘‘It took me a few weeks to put together and I just walked the streets,’’ said Teepa.

Once the auction is over, the money will be counted and donated to the Mayoral Flood Appeal on givealittle.co.nz.

‘‘Someone suggested to me to send clothes but that won’t work as well because people are all sizes, this money can be used to fix their houses and things more urgent,’’ he said.

The fund has already reached $67,000.
