Plumbing business aims for nationals
Cambridge’s Chris Ryan Plumbing and Drainage received the supreme award at the Waikato Master Plumbers Association Awards.
The business is now preparing to contest the national awards event which will be held in Hamilton, March 2018.
It was the first time the business had been nominated for an award after belonging to the Waikato Master Plumbers Association for 25 years.
Owner and director Chris Ryan said it was a first for a Cambridge plumbing company and it was exciting.
‘‘It’s a huge honour, just looking at some of the past winners that have won it and the passion that they have for their business and the industry.
‘‘To put our business name alongside their name is pretty exciting,’’ he said. He started the business in 1992. ‘‘Today we have a tight team and I am very proud of my crew.’’
The team had started preparation for the nationals, and it involved a lot of research for presentations and refining the business plan.
‘‘It is tidying up that we’re doing,’’ Ryan said.
‘‘There’s different ways of putting yourself forward, but we’ll have to present something to them, if we want to have a crack at taking it out.’’
Admin manager Kim Koberstein was excited about the preparations towards the national event in 2018.
‘‘The master plumbers conference is being held in Claudelands, in Hamilton, so for us it’s going to be a local showcase,’’ Koberstein said.
‘‘We’re pretty excited about actually getting the opportunity to represent Waikato, in the Waikato, but there’s a fair bit of work leading up to that.’’
The company was grateful to its loyal customers.
‘‘The last couple of years we’ve just been run off our feet,’’ Ryan said. ‘‘At times I would spend probably half of my day just turning work away.
‘‘We’ve been trying to help people by passing them on to others in the industry, or pointing them in the right direction.’’
