St Peter’s vs Hinuera
St Peter’s Cambridge 1st XI played Reid & Harrison Hinuera A, in the first day of a two-day match in the Waikato Valley Cricket Champions Trophy competition.
The match was played at St Peter’s in Cambridge on Saturday.
Batting first, St Peter’s progress was slow and a 72 run, 3rd wicket partnership helped them post a respectable first innings total of 190 scored at a rate of 3.01 runs per over.
All the Hinuera bowlers did their job well with Jason Rusk the stand out taking four wickets.
With 152 minutes of playing time remaining in the day when Hinuera started their innings the goal was to achieve a first innings lead by the end of the days play.
This was accomplished as when stumps were drawn at 6pm, Hinuera had reached 207 for the loss of 6 wickets with opener Ryan Wilson after being dropped from the first ball he faced top scoring with a well compiled 75.
With Hinuera already guaranteed to be in the Champions Trophy final and by attaining the first innings lead over St Peter’s, it has all but secured a home final at Pohlen Park over the weekend of March 24.
The opponents for the the final will be either Morrinsville-Piako or Cambridge depending on the outcome of their current games.
