Side swipe

Central Leader - - Opinion -

Our verge never gets mown. There’s not a lot of it – you’d be lucky if it was 5m long and 1m wide – and therein lies the problem. Because within that short stretch there are three bottlebrushes, one power pole and one old lamp post that has never been removed, none of which the subcontractor can get around on his ride- on.

He used to make a swipe over one end and when I complained that the job was incomplete, I was advised that it was part of their contract to use weedeaters where that would be more suitable. I’ve never seen them even carry a weedeater let alone deign to get off their ride- on to use it.

Nobody ever came out to inspect the work and after several complaints with no result I gave up – of course, you have to give your address when you make a complaint so now the verge doesn’t even get the swipe, he just rides on past. I don’t actually mind mowing it myself but I do object to paying for a service that is not being provided. TRISH HURLEY
