Athletes reap success
The girls of Mt Roskill Grammar tasted success last week at the New Zealand secondary schools athletics championships in Wanganui.
The school picked up three golds, two silvers and seven bronzes, with the senior girls relay team proving the stars of the show.
Portia Woodman, Andrea Koenen, Jenna Erkkila and Rachel Peeters were outstanding in the senior girls 4x100m, taking out the New Zealand title.
They were 10 metres clear of all other teams in the final, going under 50 seconds twice in the process.
The girls also collected a bronze medal in the senior girls 4x400m relay, capping off a great weekend for the team.
Koenen also highlighted her individual promise, winning the senior girls 200m, coming second in the 100m and third in the highjump.
TeRina Keenan threw 47.16m in the senior girls discus, picking up the champion’s title for the second year in a row, while receiving a bronze in the shot put.
Albert Nikoro was the biggest success story for the boys with a silver in the junior boys shot put and a bronze in the junior boys discus.
