Time to face fears

Central Leader - - News -

Getting a taste of being a pilot in a flight simulator may be just the ticket for curing flying fears.

That’s the view of Peter Cross, a real-life 767 pilot, who runs Flight Experience’s Takapuna franchise.

Mr Cross says flying fears are fuelled by the feeling of losing control of the situation.

Taking the controls of a flight simulator takes away the mystery of flying a plane and gives people an idea of the checks in place that increase safety, he says.

You learn the pilot, not the computer, is really in control of the plane and get an idea of the warning systems.

Mr Cross says it’s wonderful to be able to share his love of flying with other people.

Flight Experience offers a range of packages ranging from a 30-minute scenic flight to 60, 90 or 120 minute flights.

Gift vouchers are also available.

You can pick from thousands of airports around the world including flying over the Thames into London or the spectacular former Hong Kong approach over skyscrapers.

The simulator can also mimic a range of weather conditions including making it snow in Auckland. Flight Experience is at 466 Lake Rd, Takapuna, phone: 0800 Simulator (0800-746-852).
