Chance for artists to en­ter priceless art awards

En­tries from artists for the Wal­lace Art Awards and McCa­hon House Res­i­dency prizes are now open.

The 17th Wal­lace Art Awards 2008 is ex­pand­ing its an­nual prize pool, bring­ing the to­tal value of prizes to over $80,000.

The awards are the long­est sur­viv­ing and largest an­nual art awards of their kind in New Zealand and this year three res­i­den­cies are be­ing of­fered.

The Kaipara Foun­da­tion will of­fer a new res­i­dency at the Altes Spi­tal on the River Aare in Switzer­land.

The Park Lane Wal­lace Ver­mont Stu­dio three-month res­i­dency is be­ing of­fered as a de­vel­op­ment prize for emerg­ing artists.

Th­ese res­i­den­cies com­ple­ment the Wal­lace Trust Paramount Award – a six-month res­i­dency at the In­ter­na­tional Stu­dio and Cu­ra­to­rial pro­gramme in New York, val­ued at over $38,000.

The McCa­hon House Trust of­fers a three-month res­i­dency for a pro­fes­sional New Zealand pho­tog­ra­pher or painter.

Se­lected artists will live in a pur­pose-built house above the Ti­ti­rangi bush next to the re­stored McCa­hon cot­tage.
