Chance for artists to enter priceless art awards
Entries from artists for the Wallace Art Awards and McCahon House Residency prizes are now open.
The 17th Wallace Art Awards 2008 is expanding its annual prize pool, bringing the total value of prizes to over $80,000.
The awards are the longest surviving and largest annual art awards of their kind in New Zealand and this year three residencies are being offered.
The Kaipara Foundation will offer a new residency at the Altes Spital on the River Aare in Switzerland.
The Park Lane Wallace Vermont Studio three-month residency is being offered as a development prize for emerging artists.
These residencies complement the Wallace Trust Paramount Award – a six-month residency at the International Studio and Curatorial programme in New York, valued at over $38,000.
Entries for the Wallace Art Awards residencies close on August 7. Details at www. wallaceartstrust.org.nz.
The McCahon House Trust offers a three-month residency for a professional New Zealand photographer or painter.
Selected artists will live in a purpose-built house above the Titirangi bush next to the restored McCahon cottage.
Applications close on September 30. Information on www. mccahonhouse.org.nz.
