Town hall left in the dark
The lights will be switched off at the Auckland Town Hall to save power during winter.
Mayor John Banks says ornamental lighting outside the building will not be used overnight.
Turning off the lights on other landmarks, such as the Mission Bay fountain and cliff lighting on Tamaki Drive, is also being considered.
Auckland City Council staff have been asked to look into more ways of saving power as well.
Lighting needed for safety or essential services will not be affected.
