Town hall left in the dark

The lights will be switched off at the Auck­land Town Hall to save power dur­ing win­ter.

Mayor John Banks says or­na­men­tal light­ing out­side the build­ing will not be used overnight.

Turn­ing off the lights on other land­marks, such as the Mis­sion Bay foun­tain and cliff light­ing on Ta­maki Drive, is also be­ing con­sid­ered.

Auck­land City Coun­cil staff have been asked to look into more ways of sav­ing power as well.

Light­ing needed for safety or es­sen­tial ser­vices will not be af­fected.
