Unruly Range View Rd family face eviction action again
A family accused of terrorising residents on their Mt Albert street is facing a second eviction attempt by Housing New Zealand.
The Salt family hit the headlines last year after complaints of violence and intimidation from neighbours on Range View Rd.
Housing New Zealand ap- pealed against a Tenancy Tribunal decision last June to let the Salts stay and a new hearing will be held on August 27 and 28 at the Auckland District Court.
One resident who gave evidence at the last hearing says she is not sure whether she will go to the next one.
“My character got totally crucified last time. It put me to bed for four months. Housing New Zealand needs to win this.”
She says some in the street have been permanently damaged by the family’s alleged antics. “It’s left long-lasting memories. One woman in the street is so damaged she will never recover.”
Although the Salt family has kept relatively quiet since the last hearing, she says she has still witnessed bad behaviour at the address.
Police have visited the property recently, carrying out a search warrant in early May and arresting a man on charges of aggravated robbery.
A Housing New Zealand spokeswoman says there have been “a few minor complaints” about the family in the past year.
“They have been temporary in nature and sorted out quickly.”
The Salts’ lawyer John Foliaki could not be contacted for comment.
