Pupils parading off the page
A visit to Monte Cecilia School last Friday was like stepping into the pages of a storybook.
Characters ranging from Pippi Longstocking, Asterix and Superman to frogs, a white witch and Indiana Jones showed off their best moves in a parade around the playground. The event was the culmination of book week which ran from June 9 to 13.
Children dressed up as their favourite book character and competed for prizes such as funniest, most original, scariest, and best homemade costume.
They danced, performed tricks and enjoyed being someone else for the day. Winners were rewarded with books and the chance to parade around the playground one last time.
Jessica Dasent, 8, dressed up as Charm from the Morris Gleitzman book Toad Rage.
She says the book parade is a great event for all children at the school.
“We were a bit nerv- ous getting up in front of all of those people but it’s a time to really enjoy yourself and just have fun,” she says.
“I really love books and reading is a great way for me to chill out and just dive into a story.”
The overall winner of the parade was Alice Murray as the White Witch of Narnia.
