Man hit on crossing has died
An elderly man struck by a car in April has died after 42 days in Auckland Hospital.
Shenhe Yu, 71, was hit by a car while crossing Blockhouse Bay Rd.
Sergeant Matt Ford says Mr Yu was running across the signal-controlled crossing when traffic had a green light.
He was struck and suffered serious injuries, including head trauma, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a damaged arm.
Mr Ford says police are waiting for postmortem results to determine whether Mr Yu died from his injuries or existing health problems.
At this stage, no charges have been laid against the woman driver, who stopped after the collision and cooperated with police.
“There were no concerns about the driver’s behaviour during the collision,” says Mr Ford.
A decision has not yet been made about whether the case will be referred to the coroner’s court or proceed to prosecution.
