Your old comics wanted
Books and comics lying around in people’s attics are of huge interest to Jared Lamont.
The Dilworth School student is part of a group of nine classics students organising a comic fair to raise money for a trip to Christchurch.
They are appealing to the community to donate old comics and children’s books to be sold at the fair on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27.
Jared says books lying around in cupboards, drawers and attics may be exactly what they are looking for.
“If people aren’t using them anymore they would be very helpful to us,” he says. “People will also be able to extend their collections and bring back childhood memories while helping us out as well.”
The fair is being held to fundraise for a trip to Canterbury University to see the Logie collection of ancient Greek vases. The group also hopes to compete in the schools classical studies quiz in Christchurch to help prepare for their end-of-year exams.
Each student needs about $1500 for the trip.
Ideally comics and books donated should be first edition or older copies in good condition, “but we’ll accept anything we can get our hands on”, says Jared.
The boys will price each book but will be open to bargaining.
Group member Rhys Howard says the trip will be a great experience and help with future study.
The fair is from 10am to 4pm. To donate books and comics call Paul Artus on 520-2673 or email email@example.com.
