I’d like to take the time to thank those people who have been picking up rubbish and recycling in their areas.
Some time ago our family adopted the May Rd stream and I am delighted to say that the refuse content in the stream has dropped markedly.
I suspect the involvement of the pupils of nearby schools, who your paper has shown taking an interest in picking out rubbish and recycling upstream of “our” part of the stream, has been a huge help.
It’s very heartening to discover and far more constructive than writing letters blaming the council for dirty streets, centres, etc.
I say that if the kids can do it then we all ought to follow their examples and rather than step over a piece of trash or recycling and whinging about it being there, let’s pick it up and perform an act of service for the whole community.
Heartfelt thanks to those who do. MIKE HOWELL
