Tak­ing the lead

A co­me­dian, char­ity boss and sports leg­end were among those hon­oured in the 2008 Sir Peter Blake Lead­er­ship Awards.

Sir Murray Hal­berg, 75, re­ceived the Blake Medal for his con­tri­bu­tion to ath­let­ics and peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties.

The Ep­som res­i­dent was recog­nised for his life­time’s work help­ing dis­abled chil­dren take part in sport through the Hal­berg Trust.

Three Auck­lan­ders were also among emerg­ing leader award win­ners, in­clud­ing Julie Hel­son, gen­eral man­ager of the Kid­sCan char­i­ta­ble trust.

Funk­tion Mu­sic man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Re­becca Caughey and bro’Town star Os­car Kight­ley also won awards.

The awards were es­tab­lished by the Sir Peter Blake Trust in 2005.
