Breast is best Plun­ket mes­sage

Plun­ket is rec­om­mend­ing ways to help breast­feed­ing mums give ba­bies the best start.

This week is World Breast­feed­ing Week, a global ini­tia­tive cel­e­brat­ing and pro­mot­ing breast­feed­ing.

Plun­ket clin­i­cal ad­viser Al­li­son Jamieson says a sup­port­ive en­vi­ron­ment is vi­tal for breast­feed­ing mums.

“Each one of us can find a way to play our part, es­pe­cially part­ners, whanau, friends and em­ploy­ers, by of­fer­ing to do the laun­dry, shop­ping, cook a meal or look af­ter older chil­dren.

“This sup­port will help mum to re­lax and fo­cus on feed­ing baby.”

Moth­ers gath­ered in Auck­land to­day for a world record at­tempt for the most moth­ers breast­feed­ing si­mul­ta­ne­ously. Events were held this morn­ing at Orakei marae and in Pt Che­va­lier at the Mud Pie Deli.
