The family of a Mt Roskill boy injured when a police officer lost control of his car are relieved the ordeal is over.

In the Auckland District Court on Monday officer Aaron Holmes, 29, was disquali- fied from driving for a year and ordered to pay $3000 to the victim.

He was convicted in June of aggravated careless use of a vehicle causing injury.

Holmes lost control of his car while chasing a vehicle in August last year.

He hit a lamp post which fell on Farhat Buksh, 13, leaving him in a coma for a week.

Farhat’s grandmother Ni- sha Ali says the sentence is “alright”.

“We’re just happy to have our grandson back. That’s the most important part.

She says Farhat still tires easily.

“I think it will take a long time for him to get back to normal.”

Mrs Ali was in court for the sentencing and says she is glad she will not have to go back again.
