Village revamp gets go-ahead
The Selwyn Foundation is redeveloping Selwyn Heights Retirement Village in Hillsborough.
The Auckland City Council adopted a plan change last month to rezone the site for health purposes, allowing the foundation to extend the village.
Now based on three sites on Herd and Pah roads, it will be extended to another three adjoining properties on Pah and Korma roads.
The master plan shows 13 blocks of development, including a residential care facility near the Korma Rd frontage.
The council’s arts, community and recreation policy group made a submission against the proposed plan change.
Officers were concerned the proposed height increase of the buildings would block views from Monte Cecilia Park and were against buildings within the Pah Homestead’s carriageway.
Arts, culture and recreation committee chairman Greg Moyle says he is satisfied the proposal has been through the proper process.
He says hearing adjudicators were convinced the effects on Monte Cecilia Park would be minor, and it was a matter of balancing the foundation’s good work against the interruption to views.
A block of 26 apartments is expected to be built on the site by the end of the year.
