Farewell Sonny in style

A con­cert on Sun­day pays trib­ute to New Zealand’s late “King of Soul” Sonny Day.

Some of the coun­try’s best mu­si­cians will play at the Trib­ute to Sonny con­cert.

Sonny Day first be­came known play­ing with his band The Sundowners in the early 1960s.

He died sud­denly in Au­gust last year and many friends and fans were un­able to at­tend the tangi. The con­cert will be a chance for them to farewell Sonny in style.

Artists in­clude The Al­i­bis, Hello Sailor, Herbs Un­plugged, Low­down Dirty Blues Band and Unity Pa­cific fronted by fel­low Pon­sonby mu­si­cian Tigi Ness.

The con­cert will be at Broad­way Pub and Cafe, 4 Os­borne St, New­mar­ket, from 2pm un­til late. Tick­ets are $25 from Real Groovy. Pro­ceeds will go to Sonny’s whanau.
