Farewell Sonny in style
A concert on Sunday pays tribute to New Zealand’s late “King of Soul” Sonny Day.
Some of the country’s best musicians will play at the Tribute to Sonny concert.
Sonny Day first became known playing with his band The Sundowners in the early 1960s.
He died suddenly in August last year and many friends and fans were unable to attend the tangi. The concert will be a chance for them to farewell Sonny in style.
Artists include The Alibis, Hello Sailor, Herbs Unplugged, Lowdown Dirty Blues Band and Unity Pacific fronted by fellow Ponsonby musician Tigi Ness.
The concert will be at Broadway Pub and Cafe, 4 Osborne St, Newmarket, from 2pm until late. Tickets are $25 from Real Groovy. Proceeds will go to Sonny’s whanau.
