Hotel plan opposed
More than 150 submissions are opposing a change in height limits to allow a luxury hotel on Auckland’s waterfront.
Submissions on the proposal by Britomart developers Cooper and Company closed on July 28.
Auckland City Council received 164 submissions relating to the private plan change to allow higher buildings in the historic Britomart precinct.
Nine were in support, two sought amendments, and 153 were in opposition.
Cooper and Company hold the contract to develop the five-hectare precinct, bordered by Britomart Place, Quay St and Customs St.
Chief executive Matthew Cockram says a luxury hotel can’t be built within the existing height limit.
A date has not been set for a hearing on the private plan change.
