Swimmer Orinoco Faamausili-Banse-Prince and his teammates smashed the New Zealand record for the 4 x 100 relay in Beijing on Sunday.
But the time of 3m15.41s, around two seconds under the previous record, wasn’t enough to see them through to the finals.
The team, made up of Orinoco, Mark Herring, Cameron Gibson and Willy Benson, were 11th fastest, with only the top eight teams going through to the final.
The United States won gold in the event, in a time of 3m:08.24s. France picked up the silver while Australia snatched the bronze medal.
