Veggie bike heads to Rotorua

A vintage motorcycle found in a Three Kings garden will spend the rest of its life in a glass case.

The bike, found by Karen Amor while digging a veggie patch in April, sold on the auction website TradeMe for $267 last Wednesday.

It was bought by a Rotorua couple who told Ms Amor in an email that the purchase had caused great excitement in their household.

They said not much would be done to the rusted bike and it would be housed in a glass case as a talking point.

“I think that’s kind of cool,” says Ms Amor.

She was surprised by the price it fetched, since it was listed with no reserve.

“It sat at $201 for almost a week and then went up again.”

The auction attracted a flurry of attention and a bidding war between two potential buyers, before the winner stepped in at the last minute to out-bid them.

He will travel up from Rotorua to collect his purchase.

Ms Amor says she will be a bit sad to see the bike go.

“It’s been quite a part of the garden and quite a talking point.”

Although no one could definitely identify the bike’s model, the new owners believe it to be a 1930 BSA.
