Some of history’s most famous faces – as warped by caricature artist Murray Webb – are on display at Auckland University.

An exhibition of the Dunedin artist’s work, called Newton to Putin – the wonderful world of a master caricaturist, opened on Monday at the old Government House.

It’s the first exhibition of Mr Webb’s work held in Auckland and features 70 works selected from his archives.

The pieces range from black and white studies through to full-colour renderings of politicians, sports people and newsmakers.

From a cricketing family, Mr Webb is a former New Zealand representative fast bowler and a self-taught artist who works almost exclusively on computer.

The exhibition runs until September 29.
