Waterfront ideas

Central Leader - - News -

Your ideas are wanted on how to transform Auckland’s waterfront.

An online ideas bank has been set up by Sea+City, the company managing redevelopment of Wynyard Quarter, the former tank farm site.

Aucklanders can submit ideas or photographs of top waterfront design from overseas.

Project director John Dalzell says the design is flexible enough to allow good ideas to be incorporated.

“The ideas bank gives people yet another opportunity to tell us what they would like to see at Wynyard Quarter, following extensive consultation about the project already.”

Mr Dalzell says there’s no guarantee that submitted ideas will be implemented.

And at this stage, there’s no plans for the submissions to be displayed on the website.

But each will be considered by a member of the design team.

Public submissions have already resulted in changes to the designs for the 29-hectare Wynyard Quarter site.

More open space, room for hosting marine events and more land for marine industries will be included.

Shops, apartments, restaurants, offices, a large headland park and marine and fishing industry areas are planned.

The 25-year project is funded by Auckland Regional Holdings and Auckland City Council.

Hearings have been held this year by both city and regional councils to consider district and coastal plan changes to allow the development.
