‘Noisy’ kindy disco puts One Tree Hill on the map
There’s a party pooper lurking in One Tree Hill but no one will take responsibility for calling noise control to a kindergarten disco.
Neighbours of One Tree Hill Kindergarten are baffled by a noise complaint made about the kindy’s disco last Friday evening.
A council noise control officer asked the kindy to turn down its music – which included Bob the Builder, the Chicken Dance and SpongeBob SquarePants – at 6.30pm.
A woman living next door says her six-week-old baby slept through the disco.
“I didn’t even really notice it. I knew it would be on Fri- day. It’s a kids’ disco, it’s not going to go on until 3am.”
She was surprised to hear someone had complained and had no idea who it was.
A man living two doors down says he only realised something was happening at the kindy because the street was packed with parked cars.
He and his family went out around 6.30pm and did not hear anything.
Head teacher Lisa PrittGordon says there were babies at the disco who were sleeping through the music.
“We couldn’t have it too loud because it would affect the little ones and they would be too frightened to come into the hall.”
The disco is an annual event and they haven’t had complaints before, she says.
“A lot of neighbours have young families and attended the disco. The neighbours have been very supportive.”
A council spokesperson says the noise control officer found the sound excessive and asked the kindy to turn it down.
“There was a DJ with speakers, as well as an MC who was audible above the music and it could be heard from two doors down.”
Meanwhile, the story has hit the headlines as far away as Canada and the kindy is enjoying its 15 minutes of fame.
“Everyone is having fun with it,” says Ms Pritt-Gordon.
