Proud pad­dler

Waka ama pad­dler Vesna Radonich has done her coun­try proud.

The 32-year-old, who is par­tially deaf, won a bronze medal in the 500m in­di­vid­ual women’s open race at the world waka ama champs in Sacra­mento this month.

The re­sult comes af­ter she re­ceived wa­ter­proof hear­ing aids from Siemens, who de­cided to spon­sor Vesna af­ter see­ing her story in the Cen­tral Leader.

Vesna is cel­e­brat­ing her achieve­ment with a hol­i­day in the United States, in­clud­ing a pad­dle in her waka un­der the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran­cisco.
